Using the New Accreditation Reports
Do you have a Quality Assurance Review (QAR) visit coming up this year?  Schools using the School (building-level) Accreditation process that are preparing for QAR visits
in 2010-11 will use two new tools to guide their internal review:  the Self Assessment (SA) and the Executive Institutional Summary (EIS).  These two tools replace the Standards Assessment Report (SAR).  The SA is similar to the SAR, but is designed to engage the school community in a more in-depth evaluation of the accreditation standards.  The EIS allows the school to tell its unique story through a brief, four-part report that summarizes the school's student performance, its challenges, and its opportunities.

Why the change?  There are several reasons, but mainly because you suggested it!  People reported that the questions on the SAR were not clear, and that it was difficult to decide how much information to include.  In the new Self Assessment, it’s mostly a matter of answering multiple choice questions!  Please note that these two tools apply only to schools using the School (building-level) Accreditation process.  Districts following the District Accreditation Process will continue to complete the SAR.  We have several resources available to help you learn more about the SA and EIS and how to complete them.  Contact our office to learn more about these resources.

Why is the Accreditation Progress Report so important?

The Accreditation Progress Report engages schools and districts in focused internal analysis of its actions and progress since their Quality Assurance Review visit.  In completing the report, the school/district reviews each required action, summarizes actions taken, describes how the actions and results were evaluated to determine success, and references the evidence that the school/district has gathered to support its fulfillment of the required action.  The Accreditation Progress Report is a required component of the accreditation process and is submitted one or two years following the school/district Quality Assurance Review.  The APR is a great tool for helping schools and districts to stay focused on their quest for school improvement.

AdvancED Transparency Policy Update

While the AdvancED policy regarding transparency has not changed, the practice we use to make reports available to the public has changed.  Effective immediately, Quality Assurance Review (QAR) reports and other reports will no longer be automatically posted to the AdvancED Web site.  Now, when a stakeholder such as a parent, member of the local community, etc., requests a report through AdvancED, we will ask the person to contact your institution directly.

Our Transparency policy requires that institutions within the AdvancED network provide a copy of reports when requested.  Should our offices be informed of any refusals to provide reports, AdvancED will contact the institution, verify the request, and, if necessary, further explain the policy.  In the unlikely event an institution continues to refuse to provide reports, AdvancED then will provide online, public access to the reports.  Your school can request that AdvancED post your reports prior to requests from the public.  If you would like to have your reports available online, please submit a formal request to our office.  We appreciate your support of our policy and efforts to keep the public informed of your commitment to operational and student excellence.

AdvancED, the home of NCA CASI and SACS CASI, is dedicated to
advancing excellence in education worldwide.
