Volume 1

February 4, 2011

Increasing numbers of Arkansas school systems are implementing the AdvancED District Accreditation process designed specifically to strengthen the capacity of all leaders.  District leaders, from the superintendent and school board members to administrators and principals, work collaboratively with their schools to ensure continuous student performance.  Currently, by the end of the 2010 - 2011 school year, there will be 70 Arkansas School Districts that have attained the status of District Accreditation.  If you are interested in learning more about the AdvancED District Accreditation Process, please contact the state office at 888.560.9622.

Mark Your Calendars

AdvancED AR will host the Ninth Annual Fall Drive-In Conference September 22, 2011, at the Double Tree Hotel in Little Rock.  In addition to our general sessions, we will be recognizing the 2010 AdvancED AR Excellence in Education recipient.  Additionally, presentations will be made to districts that have attained District Accreditation during the last year and schools that have maintained 50 and 75 years of continuous accreditation, among other recognitions.

There will be pre-conference trainings provided on the enhanced AdvancED Standards on September 21, 2011.  These trainings will be very important to all schools/districts which will be hosting Quality Assurance Review visits during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years.  Please mark your calendar for these dates and watch for registration information.

Please Update Demographic Information
In order for us to maintain an accurate database for our accredited schools and districts, the demographic information contained in the AdvancED website should be updated on a yearly basis (or more frequently if needed).   The demographics report includes such information as the head of institution, mail and e-mail addresses, along with phone and fax numbers.  It also includes the number of students and full time equivalent staff, as well as, correct billing addresses and other vital information.  To ensure that you are receiving all mail and e-mail communications from the state and regional AdvancED offices, please make sure your information is current!

To update your demographics, go to www.advanc-ed.org and  log-in with your email address and password.  After logging in, place your mouse over the Accreditation tab, and click on Demographics Update.  If you have not logged into the Web site before or if you need assistance, please contact our office.

Why is the Accreditation Progress Report so Important?
The Accreditation Progress Report engages schools and districts in focused internal analysis of its actions and progress since their Quality Assurance Review visit.  In completing the report, the school/district reviews each required action, summarizes steps taken, describes how the steps and results were evaluated to determine success, and references the evidence that the school/district has gathered to support its fulfillment of the required action. The Accreditation Progress Report is a required component of the accreditation process and is submitted one or two years following the school/district Quality Assurance Review.  Although the report is required, it is a great tool for schools and districts to us in order to stay focused on their quest for school improvement.
