Middle East Update: Postponements

Egypt has been a source of fascination for all people for thousands of years, so it was with heightened interest and hope that so many of us watched these past weeks as Egypt and its people have entered into a time of dramatic change.  Our AdvancED staff in Cairo and their families are safe and secure and they send genuine expressions of gratitude for all of your support and expressions of concern.  Our family of AdvancED schools look forward to re-opening as soon as circumstances allow; as of this writing, with conditions changing daily, we all look forward to a restoration of peace and civility.

In the confidence that in the near future there will be a more prudent and appropriate time for such activities, all  early March AdvancED Quality Assurance Review (QAR) visits, along with the scheduled Global Conference planned in Amman Jordan, have been postponed and will be re-scheduled to dates yet to be determined.  We extend appreciation to all of our school leaders and volunteers for your flexibility and understanding.

  • Include break out session(s) on analyzing and using student learning data to inform instruction.
  • The two-day QAR Training was very beneficial and should be included in future conferences.
  • Keynote speakers must be prepared to deliver a relevant, inspiring message.

AdvancED Standards Launched

Just as schools and districts are subject to a rigorous process of review and continuous improvement, so are AdvancED Standards.  In order to comply with the AdvancED policy that requires the AdvancED Standards to be reviewed every five years, a Standards Committee began meeting in the fall of 2009 to review the current Standards, which have been in place since 2007.  This review allowed the Committee to look at current education quality and research, as well as the knowledge gained from everyday application by schools and districts.  As a result of this review, the AdvancED Standards have been updated and adopted.  They are organized into five areas:
  1. Purpose and Direction
  2. Governance and Leadership
  3. Teaching and Assessing for Learning
  4. Resources and Support Systems
  5. Using Results for Continuous Improvement
Schools hosting QAR visits in 2012-13 will prepare for those visits using the new standards.  Prior to that, support materials and training will be developed to guide the implementation and use of the new Standards.  More information about training will be available as the process continues.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact our office.

More featured topics and speakers have been added to the 2011 AdvancED International Summit program.  The Summit, which takes place March 19-21 in Chicago, IL, is themed the Power to Transform and will engage thought leaders, practitioners, and policymakers in deliberation on today’s most pressing and provocative issues facing our educational system.  The summit program features dynamic professional learning opportunities that will challenge your thinking.  Some of the program highlights include:
