| The combination of Design Science Research (DSR) and the areas of specialisation of IFIP Working Groups 8.2 (Information Systems and the Organisation) and 8.6 (Transfer and Diffusion of IT) is the theme for the 2010 Joint Working Conference. DSR as a paradigm creates new technical and socio-technical phenomena (e.g. IS and IT), through building new solutions to problems, and is touted as a means for the IS field to improve its relevance. Organisational and societal issues need to be considered when framing, conducting, evaluating, and diffusing DSR. IS research needs to, therefore, take a (more) holistic perspective, which integrates DSR and behavioural research. The conference aims to cover information systems and technology issues, as well as organisational and adoption issues, related to DSR, especially where technologies are aimed at creating human benefit. Technologies for human benefit are concerned with improving the human condition, .e.g., by improving the quality of working life, improving health, improving the environment, reducing poverty, improving social conditions, or improving participation in and service provision by government or not-or-profit organisations. A number of possible questions and perspectives are identified in the Call for Papers (click here). In addition to papers on the conference theme, submissions on any traditional topic of IFIP WG 8.2 or 8.6 will also be considered. Furthermore, along with traditional papers, the conference is soliciting case studies, panels, practitioner presentations and poster session papers. Conference venue The conference will be held on the campus of Curtin University of Technology (http://about.curtin.edu.au/) in Perth, Western Australia (http://www.westernaustralia.com/au/). Perth and the neighbouring port city of Fremantle are situated on the western coast of Australia, in the same time zone with Singapore and Hong Kong. The area is known for its many pristine beaches, unique wildflowers and fauna (marsupials, birds, and much more), outstanding wine districts, as well as the picturesque views along the broad Swan River and the forest and south coastal districts further afield. Climate and Conference Timing The conference is timed to be held in the middle of the week before Easter (which many universities will have off as a holiday), to allow time for travel as well as the possibility to holiday in Perth, elsewhere in WA, or elsewhere in Australia following the conference. March and April (early autumn) is the perfect time of year to visit Western Australia. Weather is typically ideal with blue sky and moderate dry heat. This allows many outdoor activities, including visiting outdoor cafes, swimming, picnicking, sight-seeing, hiking (bush walking), and attending outdoor cinemas, concerts, and other performances. For more information about the climate Perth, Fremantle and Western Australian please visit the Tourism WA website ( http://www.westernaustralia.com/au/).
